Hardstem Bulrush (Schoenoplectus acutus)
Schoenoplectu acutus, with the common name, Hard Stemmed Bulrush, is a 4' to 9' tall rush. It is a late spring to early summer flowering, native, perennial. Ir grows in full sun sites and requires moist to wet soil moisture. This plant is a wetand plant that can spread aggressively with its rhizomes. It is usually found near lakes, streams, marshes and swamps. It is used by many bird species, amphibians, reptiles and mammals for food. Hard Stemmed Bulrush is commonly used in wetland, stream bank, and moist disturbed areas for stabilization, restoration and erosion control.
