Purple Top is a 3' to 5' tall native perennial warm season bunch grass usually growing in small tuffs. This plant features pyramid shaped open panicles of showy purple seedheads. The seedheads are covered with an oily substance giving rise to another common name, Grease Grass. Although sometimes slow to establish, this grass competes well with other native grasses. It prefers dry to medium soils in full sun or partial shade. When planted in mass the purple seedheads make a beautiful garden or meadow display. This is a good forage grass and provides wildlife cover. Prices listed are based on pure live seed weight, not bulk weight. You are only paying for viable seed.
