Showy Tickseed is a 3' to 6' tall, prolific self-seeding, native annual. It is a tall branching plant with large numbers of showy yellow flowers, growing equally well in full sun or part shade. Showy Tickseed needs a moist environment and is usually found growing in wet fields, swamp or marsh edges, roadside ditches or other low ground. Tickseed Sunflower is widely used in landscaping, native plant gardens, wildflower meadows, and along roadsides. The two-pronged barbed awns extending from the seed attach to clothing or fur to spread. On dryer sites the seed is readily consumed by quail and other birds. In swamp edges and flooded fields the seeds attract large numbers of ducks.
