Spiked Blazing Star (Liatris spicata)
Spiked Blazing Star is a 2' to 4' tall native perennial with a native range over all the eastern US. The flowers are in long dense showy spikes that open progressively from top to bottom. The extended pistals and stamens give the 3/4" wide purple flower a fuzzy appearance. Spiked Blazing Star prefers full sun and moist fertile soils but will perform well in dry poor soils, and is actually quite drought tolerant. Spiked Blazing Star is the native Liatris species most frequently used. It is most often found growing in moist meadows, marsh edges, and moist grasslands. It is an easily established and maintained plant and is widely sought after for gardens, wildflower meadows, and wildlife habitat. This plant is a must for butterfly and hummingbird gardens and vital to pollinator conservation plantings. Prices listed are based on pure live seed weight, not bulk weight. You are only paying for viable seed.
