Virginia Wildrye (Elymus virginicus)
Virginia Wildrye is a 2' to 4' tall native perennial cool season bunch grass with 3" to 6" long erect seed heads. The seed heads may be partly included in the upper leaf sheath. Virginia Wildrye is very shade tolerant and is found in flood plains woods and open moist woods, as well as moist grasslands and margins of other wet areas. It is adapted to a wide range of soils and has a nearly national native distribution. Virginia Wild Rye is often mixed with warm season grasses and forbs for conservation and habitat plantings to provide an early cover crop. It is utilized as food and cover by deer, turkey, quail, waterfowl, songbirds, and a huge list of other wildlife. Prices listed are based on pure live seed weight, not bulk weight. You are only paying for viable seed.
