Prairie Blazing Star - AR Grand Prairie Ecotype (Liatris pycnostachya)
Prairie Blazing Star is a 3' to 5' tall native perennial and is perhaps the tallest of the Liatris species. The 3/4" wide flowers are arranged in a spectacular dense spike on the upper two thirds of the stalk. It is a summer and fall flowering plant that grows best in dry to medium soils and prefers full sun sites. The flowers are pink with the extended pistils and stamens giving the spike a fuzzy appearance. Prairie Blazing Star, as the name indicates, is primarily distributed in the prairie states and is not native to the southeast. This tall stately bright colored plant is very conspicuous and widely used in a variety of garden settings. Prairie Blazing Star is also used for landscaping, roadside plantings, wildlife habitat plantings, grassland restoration plantings, and pollinator conservation plant establishment. This ecotype is made possible in partnership with Audubon Delta. Prices listed are based on pure live seed weight, not bulk weight. You are only paying for viable seed.
